Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts

The College Board Awards for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts recognizes and celebrates the achievements of arts programs that serve students in grades 6–12 and that promote student learning and creativity in exemplary and innovative ways. It began in 2011 as a part of Arts at the Core - an initiative with the goal of empowering education leaders, particularly in under resourced districts, to implement rigorous arts programming in their schools. Annual awards were given in three categories – Arts Integration, Equity through Arts, and Civic Engagement – and descriptions of recent winning programs can be found here.

The Arts Award program has been discontinued, but the College Board continues to sponsor a number of other arts-focused opportunities for teachers and students: the Call for Artists competition invites student artists to share and exhibit their work, and development is underway on a robust set of Pre-AP curriculum, instruction, and assessment resources for teachers of the arts in grades 6-12.
